Witnesses of history

Let's meet the witnesses of history
In Val d’Amboise, history is not contained in some dusty old book. Though the stones of its castles may seem well fixed in place, its history is told through the many characters who have come before us. All year round, dramatised tours and immersive shows plunge visitors into a concrete and tangible history. Little secrets, royal gossip and mysterious unveiled: there are a thousand and ones ways to tell our history.
With its gallery of colourful characters, the Val d’Amboise Tourist Office invites you to follow in the footsteps of these personalities, all year round. There is the charming Mathurine, Leonardo da Vinci’s cook, the facetious Gabrielle, a courtesan with a truly sharp tongue, and not forgetting the extravagant Berthe, who’s never lost for words! These characters, real or fictional, all share an extraordinary know-how: bringing history to life.
But history still lives on today. In Val d’Amboise, dozens of craftsmen, traders and local present their family or personal history to you. Did you know that the Amboise Pâtisserie Bigot has existed for 110 years? Or that the Plou family in Chargé has been making wine there since the 16th century?
