A royal interlude for lovers

Charming accommodation for a romantic weekend in the Amboise Valley

Your royal getaway begins with the discovery of a charming lodging, a former manor house, troglodytic dwelling or even a château that once belonged to one of the courtiers of Renaissance kings. Behind these venerable walls, you’ll feel protected by the weight of history. Period drapes and furnishings enhance the feeling of historical immersion, while a park with century-old trees opens up this bubble of disconnection. A spa, Nordic bath, Jacuzzi or sauna will give your body the opportunity to relax completely, before you begin your discovery of the Val d’Amboise.

Visit the châteaux of the Val d'Amboise with complete peace of mind

Just a stone’s throw from your accommodation, the châteaux of the Val d’Amboise will have you turning the pages of the book of French history, meeting some of the kingdom’s greatest figures. Kings Charles VIII and François 1er will welcome you to the Château Royal d’Amboise, where the great Leonardo da Vinci is laid to rest; at the Château du Clos Lucé, you’ll understand the incredible legacy left by one of the greatest geniuses in the history of mankind. At the Domaine Royal de Château Gaillard, you’ll discover the art of gardening, the work of Mercoliano, the Neapolitan kings’ genius gardener. On the heights of Amboise, contemplate the exotic folly of the Duc de Choiseul as you climb the 7-storey Pagode de Chanteloup! In Val d’Amboise, history is written with a capital H!

Our advice: for a more comfortable visit, avoid the busiest times at the châteaux; opt for a visit when they open or before they close; allow 2 to 3 hours per château for a leisurely discovery.

Gourmet weekend in the Val d'Amboise

More than any other destination in the Loire Valley, the Val d’Amboise is synonymous with the art of living! After a stroll through the aisles of the Amboise market (Friday and Sunday mornings), you can prepare yourself a snack worthy of Gargantua, to be enjoyed in the tranquility of the banks of the Loire. Unless you’re tempted by the vast choice of restaurants, brasseries and bistros in the Val d’Amboise. Put your trust in our chefs, experts in the preparation of local specialties: Loire fish, rillons, géline and roi rose de Touraine, Sainte-Maure cheese, poire tapée… From the guinguette to the Michelin-starred table, there’s a wide range of culinary delights to whet your appetite!

Our tip: take advantage of the exceptional setting on the banks of the Loire to enjoy the guinguette experience, and savor local specialties, practically with your feet in the water!

Extraordinary experiences for two in Val d'Amboise

With a full stomach and a mind filled with anecdotes and historical nuggets, it is time to let yourself be carried away by the exceptional landscapes of the Loire Valley. The ultimate experience will take you in a balloon pod as it takes off over castles. It floats a few meters from the Loire and then touches the royal ramparts, before sliding into the calm of the forest of Amboise. The more down-to-earth will be able to follow the meanders of the river along the Loire à Vélo route for a more sporty but easily accessible getaway, including for those who are not regular users of bike paths. And for the more sporty, the Loire is a great playground for canoeing enthusiasts; as close to the waves of the royal river, you can observe all the diversity of fauna and flora in Liguria.

Our advice: come and see us at the Tourist Office and we can advise you on the best bike routes, or on the private offers to the destination Val d’Amboise.

Touraine-Amboise tastings for gourmet connoisseurs

Before returning to your royal cocoon, enjoy a moment of exchange and sharing with one of our winemakers. In the Val d’Amboise, some twenty winegrowing estates welcome you all year round for a plunge into the fragrant world of viticulture. Whether you choose a family estate, a troglodytic cellar or an oenological experience, the choice is yours. Touraine-Amboise wines are known for their generosity, just like the people who make them. Côt or Malbec is the region’s essential grape variety, but Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chenin also have their place.

Our tip: some estates offer a complete wine experience, including a visit, wine tasting and local products (charcuterie, cheeses, etc.). It’s the perfect opportunity to discover all the riches of the Val d’Amboise terroir in a single visit.
