Even before you see it appear around the bend in the road, the pagoda tells you a story. The story of \u00c9tienne-Fran\u00e7ois de Choiseul<\/strong>, powerful minister to Louis XV<\/strong>, favorite of the Marquise de Pompadour, who fell from grace and was exiled to Amboise.<\/p>

Far from being discouraged, he had a sumptuous estate built there, where intellectuals and loyal courtiers gathered. The pagoda, built in 1775, was conceived as a monument of friendship and gratitude to those who had not abandoned it.<\/p>

Sixteen marble plaques engraved with Chinese characters still adorn its facade, evoking peace between peoples and gratitude towards loyal friends.
