remaining evidence of an immense ch\u00e2teau and its magnificent gardens, built in the 18th century by the powerful <strong>Duc de Choiseul.<\/strong> <strong>Minister to Louis XV<\/strong> and favorite of the Marquise de <strong>Pompadour, \u00c9tienne-Fran\u00e7ois de Choiseul<\/strong> played a major political role before falling from grace and being exiled to <strong>Amboise<\/strong>. It was here that he built a sumptuous estate, where he gathered a brilliant society of intellectuals and courtiers.<\/p><p>The pagoda, erected in 1775, was conceived as a monument of friendship and gratitude to those who had remained loyal to him. Its original architecture, inspired by the orientalist tendencies in vogue at the time, makes it a unique curiosity in France.
